Prayer Rally To End Abortion

By Sherry Simmons

While carnivals and fall festivals were going on around Cortez, there was a different sort of gathering going on. The day before Halloween was a busy day for Cortez featuring activities for children, but one group gathered to pray. Several dozen people and children gathered in front of the Cortez Planned Parenthood, Saturday, October 30, 2021. National 40 Days for Life, General Counsel, Matt Britton, who was the guest speaker for the day, spoke encouraging words to those who came to pray.

40 days for Life, is an international group who pray at Planned Parenthood and abortion clinics across the world. Their website is full of stories in which mothers chose life, and babies were saved. As of the beginning of November, their website shows there were 19,518 babies saved since 2007, 114 abortion clinics closed, and 222 abortion workers quit their jobs. These numbers speak to the power of prayer. All life is a precious gift from Almighty God, and he is working through organizations like this.

The mission statement for 40 days for Life, reads

"40 Days for Life is an internationally coordinated 40-day campaign that aims to end abortion locally through prayer and fasting, community outreach, and a peaceful all-day vigil in front of abortion businesses."

Terri and Bill Nelligan head up a local chapter for Cortez and Durango. They can be found often praying in front of Planned Parenthood.

Their dedication to saving the babies and sharing hope to mothers is easy to see through their commitment.

The prayer rally lasted for about an hour and except for one passing vehicle who yelled, "my body my choice," there were many positive honks, waves, and thumbs up. Abortion is a hot topic and can easily boil into disagreements .

The statement of my body my choice leaves out any regard for the baby. Life is undeniably present at conception, no matter how one may argue:; a baby in the womb is indeed a life.

Great and wonderful things come from faithful prayer and trust in God. The prayer rally honored God and there is no doubt that positive outcomes came from this day.

God Bless these prayer warriors, and their commitment to ending the murder of babies
